Overview
Amarnath Yatra Package Approximately 29 kilometers from Pahalgam, at an elevation of 3,888 meters, is the holy temple known as Amarnath Ji, or Amarnath Temple. A Shiva Lingam, a phallus-shaped creation formed of ice that Hindus around the world regard as the most sacred emblem, is located inside the cave. Devotees travel in great numbers there from June to August on the Amarnath Yatra, a well-known pilgrimage that starts in Chandanwari. Amarnath is one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas, or the most sacred sanctuaries in Hinduism. The Amarnath Temple is a place to seek blessings, but its surroundings also offer breathtaking views.
About Amarnath
It is thought that Lord Shiva and his consort and bride, Goddess Parvati, first discussed the nature of existence and eternity in the location where the Amarnath Cave now sits. It is said that Bhrigu Muni, a revered Hindu scholar, was the first to find this sacred location. The Kashmir Valley was completely underwater at the time, but Kashyap Muni, another strong sage, used his supernatural abilities to drain the waters. Bhrigu Muni was the first to discover the location of the Shiva Lingam when the floods began to recede.
The Mahabharata and Puranas, two classical Hindu books, mention that the lingam represents Shiva. From May to August, the lingam progressively waxes as the snow melts in the Himalayas above the cave and seeps into the cave’s rock formations. After that, the lingam gradually wanes. According to religious doctrine, the lingam expands and contracts under the moon phases reaching its height during the summer festival. According to Hindu religious mythology, this is where Shiva revealed to his celestial spouse Parvati the meaning of existence and eternity.
There are numerous glaciers in Lidder Valley, where the cave resides. Professor M. N. Koul, a glaciologist and former head of the geography division at Jammu University, stated in 2009 that although additional research is required, modifications to the water channels leading to the lingam may also affect the lingham’s size. Gypsum and limestone make up the cave’s structure. The heat generated by people impacts the stalagmite’s size. Changes in outside temperature also impact its size. Helicopter trips and helipad locations are controlled to reduce artificial temperature variations. The idea of artificially prolonging the stalagmite’s lifespan has been discussed. However, this has drawn criticism.
